PSI Conference: Multidisciplinary Perinatal Physical and Mental Health

38th Annual Postpartum Support International Conference

New Orleans, LA

July 11, 2025  (3:30-4:30 PM)

A Multidisciplinary Approach to Managing the Intersection of Perinatal Musculoskeletal and Pelvic Health Concerns, Fear Avoidance Beliefs and Behaviors, and Mental Health Outcomes.

I am thrilled to be joining forces with Dr. Kimberley Johnson to offer a multidisciplinary perinatal physical and mental health approach at the 38th Annual PSI Conference! We both recognize that postpartum physical recovery challenges impact wellbeing and functioning across multiple domains yet remain under-addressed and often dismissed.

The deluge of misinformation and lack of appropriate support can amplify distress. Fear-based messaging often fuels hypervigilance to symptoms and avoidance of movement, which can result in further deconditioning and worsening symptoms. In addition, reduced engagement in stress-buffering physical activity can increase vulnerability to anxiety and depression, alter sense of self, and compromise maternal role functioning. It’s an incredibly difficult loop that many postpartum families find themselves in. We’re excited to share some information and strategies to equip providers as they navigate those cycles with their clients and strive to provide whole person care.

Co-presented with Dr. Kimberly Johnson (on Substack, on Instagram)  and Dr. Julie W. Wiebe.
